PETFINDER.COM POLICYWednesday 11/16, 2005 10:00PM ETA few people have asked us about how Project Starfish attempts to reunite animals with their owners. We wanted to explain how we work, especially regarding posting dogs on Petfinder.com.
First, it is important to understand the scope of our work. Project Starfish facilitates the transport of animals, but we do not house any animals. Instead, we work with approved humane societies, shelters, and rescue groups across the US who house, vet, and foster out the animals.
All the shelters we work with sign a contract that they will post the animals on Petfinder. The animals are posted under the receiving shelter's name not under Project Starfish’s name. We think this has caused some confusion.
Some of you may be searching for Project Starfish on Petfinder and not coming up with any hits. That is because all the animals we helped are listed under the receiving shelter’s name.
It is very important that we all do whatever we can to reunite animals with their owners. Part of this is volunteering in NOLA to help feed and care for the thousands of animals still loose in the streets. Most of these animals are believed to be pets and their only chance of ever seeing their owner again is a human like you who can help them.
Please consider going to New Orleans if you can. It is the best thing you can do right now to help reunite people with their companion animals. Visit www.animalrescueneworleans.com for more information.
Thank you
