UPDATE FROM NEW ORLEANSSunday, September 18, 11:45AM ET Cynthia is in New Orleans for her second day with
rescuers from CODE 3 and the Humane Society of St. Louis. She says
things seem really organized and efficient today.
The group Cynthia is working with is covering a particular part of the
city. They have a list of 285 addresses where people have asked for
a pet to be rescued. The group will divide up the addresses and
rescue the animals they can and leave enough food and water for
three days for the ones they can't. Another group will return
later to rescue the animals left behind. Cynthia's crew
consists of six people and one National Guard.
On their way into New Orleans, Cynthia and her crew already had
successful rescue. They were sitting in a traffic jam on
I-10 and Cynthia saw what she thought was a pair of ears
sticking up from the embankment on the other side of
the highway. Once these ears moved, the guys she was with put on
their gloves, jumped out of the car and ran across the median
through oncoming traffic to rescue what turned out to be
a German Shepherd that had apparently been hit by a car.
We will have more updates from her day later. She has also promised to
visit the dog with the lacerated neck (see photos from last night) this
evening to get an update on his status.
