Asheville Hopes N.C. animals would be evacuated in emergency

Watching the horrors in New Orleans and seeing the way animals were treated made me despair at what we, humanity, have become. From press members filming suffering creatures crying out, and then walking away to film the next shocking moment; to politicians delaying those animal rescue crews from doing their jobs without a second thought; to snatching puppies out of a traumatized little boy’s arms; to the original owners leaving their fighting dogs tied to trees; the list goes on.

Go to www.projectstarfish.org to see the truth of what happened. The pictures are graphic, but I chose not to stick my head in the sand. The media showing happy reunions is great, but out of 50,000 animals only 6,000 were saved. That leaves 44,000 to die horrific deaths.

I understand we believe human life comes first, but when we are done saving humans, could we focus on our dependents rather than gas prices? There are still animals trapped alive in houses down there, dying of thirst. Gandhi said we can judge our moral compass by how we treat our animals. I am disappointed and scared for us. Please write your representatives that we need laws to ensure animal evacuation in N.C.
