The following update was written by Sue Varner, the Project Starfish volunteer who organized the PA transport and fundraising effort. She reports on the progress of two corgi-mix puppies that came up on her transport.
Two of the dogs we took from Broken Down Dogs Shelter in Alexandria, LA were severely traumatized and scared from the moment we picked them up. These two corgi-mix puppies were placed with two very special people—Faith and Denny Kacsan who worked with the puppies daily to bring them out of their shell.
The Kacsans cared for the puppies for two weeks and I am very happy to report both dogs went to their new homes this past Sunday, October 16. The tender loving care given by the Kacsans really worked.
One of the dogs, named Sergeant Dingo, went home with Ed Cheman. Ed says that Sergeant Dingo is extremely smart and that he already loves him to pieces. He calls him “the best dog in the world”!
The other puppy, named Cody, went home with Karen and Marvin Young. This people are the nicest, warmest, and most loving couple you would ever want to meet. I am sure Cody will be smothered with love and attention. Cody is so cute—his little ears flop over and it really is darling. It did take him a little longer to come out of his shell. He is quieter than Sergeant Dingo but now loves to play and explore.
Faith and I watched them go to their new homes with tears in our eyes. Some of the tears were tears of pride in how far these guys have come. I can't thank Faith and Denny enough for the wonderful job they did with these puppies.
Seeing these two innocent animals saved from an uncertain future and blossom in their wonderful life with their new families has been a very moving experience. The world is a better place because of people like Faith and Denny, the foster/adoptive families, and all of the volunteers who have worked so hard and gave of themselves so freely to help these animals and all the rest of the animals we will be helping in the future.
As all of the Project Starfish volunteers have been saying, “We have only just begun"! Let's keep making a difference!
Here in Butler, PA we have joined with the Butler County Humane Society to help launch the HOME 4 THE HOLIDAYS campaign. We are bringing the Katrina animals and striving to get our shelter animals all "Home 4 the Holidays"! Wish us luck.
